Honda 2Wheelers India & Kerala Motor Vehicles Department start Road Safety Awareness Training for learner license applicants in Kozhikode

Kozhikode, September 6, 2019: Strengthening its commitment towards making safer roads for Kozhikode, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) today announced the new initiative ‘Road Safety Awareness Training’ in association with Kerala Motor Vehicles Department. Now, all learner license applicants will get the training by Honda’s skilled instructors at Motor Vehicle Department in Kozhikode.
Further boosting the road safety culture, Honda will also provide support towards training the trainers of other RTOs of Kerala.
Present at the inauguration of this historic road safety awareness initiative in Kozhikode were Mr. A. K. Saseendran (Transport Minister, Governement of Kerala), Mr. Sudesh Kumar (IPS, State Transport Commissioner, Governement of Kerala), Ms. Meera Darsak (Deputy Mayor, Kozhikode Corporation), Mr. Seeram Sambasiva Rao (IAS, District Collector, Kozhikode) and Mr. Prabhu Nagaraj (Vice President, Brand & Communication, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd.) along with other senior dignitaries from state government and Honda 2Wheelers India.
Sharing thoughts on the new road safety awareness training program, Mr Prabhu Nagaraj, Vice President - Brand & Communication, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “It is alarming that more than 21,000* road accidents in Kerala were caused due to traffic violation alone. As a responsible two-wheeler manufacturer, we believe that creating aware and safe road users is integral for safety of all. Through this program, we aim to sensitize new riders & drivers by training them on crucial subjects like traffic rules, road signs and necessary safety measures so that they become responsible road users in the future.”
About the program
In order to bring a behavioural change in riders of Khozikode, Kerala Motor Vehicle Department has given responsibility to Honda to educate learner license applicants of the city & make them responsible road users.
Honda’s 2-hours free of cost training program will educate learner license applicants through a theory session on road rules, road signs & markings, riding gear & posture explanation and safe riding etiquettes. This will be followed by a training on Honda’s virtual road safety simulator which increases an individual’s risk prediction ability on roads before actual riding. All the participants of Road Safety Awareness Training program will get a certificate of participation to further process their application for driving license.

As a responsilble corporate, Honda is actively contributing to spread road safety awareness and has educated over 37,000 people in Kerala through its regular awareness camps in schools, colleges, corporates and societies.
Sensitizing people of all age groups, Honda has made 30 lac Indians aware on road safety. Honda’s safety riding and training programmes are held daily at its 14 adopted traffic parks across India (2 in Delhi, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Yeola, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ludhiana, Coimbatore, Trichy, Karnal and Thane). Honda also provides training to learner license applicants at its 4 traffic parks (Karnal, Bhubaneswar, Trichy & Coimbatore) and a safety driving education centre in Ranchi.
