Jharkhand Transport Department & Honda 2Wheelers India start mandatory Road Safety Awareness Training for learner license applicants in Ranchi

Ranchi, August 21, 2019: Further strengthening its commitment towards making safer roads for Ranchi, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) today announced the new initiative ‘Road Safety Awareness Training’ in association with Jharkhand Transport Department. Now, all learner license applicants will get the mandatory training by Honda’s skilled instructors at District Transport Office in Ranchi.

Present at the inauguration of this historic road safety awareness initiative in Ranchi were Shri. Chandreshwar Prasad Singh, Minister of Transport Department, Govt. Of Jharkhand,Mr. Ravi Shankar (Joint Transport Commissioner, Ranchi), Mr. Rai Mahimapat Ray (District Collector, Ranchi), Mr. Kewal Krishna Agrawal (District Nazarat Deputy Collector) and Mr. Prabhu Nagaraj (Vice President, Brand & Communication, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd.) and other senior dignitaries from state government and Honda 2Wheelers India.

Sharing thoughts on the new road safety awareness training program , Mr Prabhu Nagaraj, Vice President - Brand & Communication, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “At Honda, we believe that creating aware and safe road users is integral for safety of all. As a global leader of mobility, Honda has spread road safety awareness to over 30 Lac Indians of all ages since its start in 2001. In India, awareness of correct and safe riding technique is a biggest challenge. The new road safety awareness training program is unique as it merges education with enforcement. Now all new learner license applicants will  get professional training by Honda’s instructors on traffic rules, road signs and necessary safety measures to be a responsible road user.This will result in safe riders and drivers on Ranchi’s road.

About the program

In order to bring a behavioral change in riders of Ranchi, Jharkhand Transport Department has given responsibility to Honda to educate learner license applicants of the city and make them responsible road users.

Honda’s 2-hours free of cost training program will educate learner license applicants through a theory session on road rules, traffic signs, and safe riding etiquettes. This will be followed by a training on Honda’s virtual road safety simulator which increases an individual’s risk prediction ability on roads before actual riding. Now, it will be only after every participant gets their certificate of participation in the Road Safety Awareness Training program that their application for driving license will be further processed.

Honda’s Corporate Social Responsibility Efforts in Road Safety promotion:

As a responsible corporate, Honda has sensitized over 1.50 lac individuals on road safety awareness in Jharkhand. Further, to provide immediate rescue and response to any emergency, Honda has given 125 motorcycles to the Beat Patrolling Team of Ranchi, Jamshedpur & Dhanbad police.  Honda is also working towards inculcating safe riding habits through its road safety awareness campaign for school and college students as well as safety riding and training programmes at its 14 adopted traffic parks across India (Tiruchirappalli, 2 in Delhi, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Yeola, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ludhiana, Coimbatore, Karnal and Thane).
