Honda 2Wheelers increases market leadership

  • Becomes No. 1 two-wheeler company for 1st time in 3 new States (Gujarat, Punjab, Delhi)
  • Increases market share trend in 19 States
  • Leading the Scooterization trend, Honda’s market share in automatic scooter segment is above 50% in 27 States

New Delhi, 14 October 2015: Creating a new milestone Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) is now No. 1 selling 2Wheeler brand across 8 States and 1 Union Territory across India as per latest sales figures provided by Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) for first quarter of FY’2015-16.

Honda adds 3 new States (Gujarat, Punjab and Delhi) to its No. 1 tally.

Increasing preference for Honda 2Wheelers made Honda Wings - the ‘No. 1 selling two-wheeler brand’ in 8 States (Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Kerala, Punjab, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Goa) and 1 Union Territory (Chandigarh).

Overall, Honda 2Wheeler’s all India market share grew 2% points to 26% in first quarter of FY’2015-16. Within States, Honda’s market share zoomed to over 50% in 2 states + 1 Union Territory (Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Goa), crossed 40% mark in 2 key states (Maharashtra, Gujarat) and was well above 30% mark in an additional 7 States (Delhi, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana).

Noteworthy that Honda 2Wheelers sales grew progressively in total of 28 States including many motorcycle dominated states like Uttar Pradesh (14%), Haryana(7%), Assam(13%, West Bengal(19%), Madhya Pradesh(3%), Punjab (8%), Rajasthan(12%), Bihar (7%), Jharkhand(14%), Chhattisgarh(16%) and Tamil Nadu(8%).

Honda has strengthened its undisputed leadership in automatic scooter segment and is leading the scooterization of Indian 2Wheeler industry across all 29 States and UTs. Infact, Honda’s market share in automatic scooter is as high as over 80% in Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and over 70% in 3 States (Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand).

Commenting on Honda’s performance, Mr. Keita Muramatsu, President & CEO, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, said, “In the first quarter of FY’2015-16,Honda grew 5 times faster than the industry. Honda 2Wheeler is now the ‘Most preferred 2-wheeler brand’ in an impressive 8 States and 1 Union Territory. Our strategy to launch many new models in both scooter and motorcycle segments, network expansion in smaller towns, increased flexibility in production mix to meet demand and top of mind brand recall brand has been well accepted in the market.”
