Honda signs Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chandigarh Traffic Police for Road Safety Promotion

Chandigarh, July 31, 2014: Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI), the only Honda in Indian two-wheeler industry has today entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chandigarh police to adopt its first-ever Traffic Education Park in Punjab and Haryana.

Present at the MoU signing ceremony were Mr. Anil Kumar IAS, Home Secretary, Chandigarh Administration, Mr. R.P Upadhyaya – Inspector General Police, Union Territory, Chandigarh and Mr. Yadvinder S. Guleria – Vice President, Sales & marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI).

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Yadvinder S. Guleria, Vice President-Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, "As a leading corporate citizen Honda understands that its responsibility goes beyond production of two-wheelers to expand safe riding environment in India. The basic issue is not only infrastructure but mindset of road users. After empowering a phenomenal 60,000 participants within 1.5 years through our 4 existing traffic parks, Honda is committing itself to make Safe Riding an everyday habit of two-Wheeler riders in Chandigarh."

Honda is set to makeover the Chandigarh Traffic Park in Sector 23-A and create a specially designed, protected environment within the 15 acres.

At the Children Traffic Park, Honda will provide 'Lifetime Safety Education' for all age groups – starting from 5 year old school children to adults with a special focus on females wanting to have a freedom of independent mobility.

Some of the key highlights of Honda's commitment shall be:

  • Expert Honda Safety instructors (female & male) to educate new riders on correct riding techniques
  • Honda's Proprietary riding trainers which shall aid people above 13 years of age to experience over 100 possible dangers on road. The virtual experience significantly increases rider's ability to predict & react to traffic hazards. The same can also provide instructions in Hindi language.
  • Specially imported CRF 50 motorcycles so that children learn the "fun way".
  • Exchange of road safety know-how – a boon for many existing and new riders

Honda's road safety initiatives

Globally, Road Safety Promotion is one of Honda's top priorities worldwide since 1970. Under the "People Come First" philosophy, Safety is an integral part of all Honda's business activities across 36 countries over four decades.

In India too, Honda has been promoting Safe Riding an everyday habit of all 2Wheeler riders since 2001. In 2012, Honda adopted its first traffic park in Jaipur. This was soon followed by Delhi. Overwhelmed by the deep appreciation of citizens at both the traffic parks, Honda inaugurated two new traffic parks in Odisha at Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. In just one and half years, Honda has trained nearly 60,000 people of all age group at its four existing Traffic Training Parks.
